Azure Ray, known for reviving retired players, has made headlines again by recruiting Zeng “Ori” Jiaoyang, Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida, and Xu “fy” Linsen, along with the return of coach Zhang “LaNm” Zhicheng, who briefly left the team.
Announced on December 31, these additions come after several players departed to Wang “Ame” Chunyu’s new squad, Xtreme Gaming, following their victory against Gaimin Gladiators at ESL One Kuala Lumpur.
The current Azure Ray roster for 2024 includes Lou “Lou” Zhen, Zeng “Ori” Jiaoyang, Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida, Xu “fy” Linsen, Jiang “天命” An, and Zhang “LaNm” Zhicheng. Notably, the 2023 International roster had three former PSG.LGD legends, with fy returning for 2024.
The comeback of midlaner Ori and offlaner Faith_bian is especially remarkable. Ori previously played for Vici Gaming and later Team Aster, achieving a fourth-place finish at TI11. Faith_bian, a legendary offlaner from Wings Gaming, helped PSG.LGD reach new heights after returning in 2020, securing titles at Riyadh Masters 2022, WePlay AniMajor, and a TI10 runner-up spot.
Azure Ray’s ability to entice retired players back into action is impressive. Despite forming only in May the previous year, they became one of China’s representatives at TI12, finishing fourth. With a stable safelane duo and the addition of the talented offlane pair Faith_bian and fy, Azure Ray boasts incredible individual skill and versatility. Their collaboration marks the first time these two legends play together, promising an exciting show once they shake off any initial rust.
